Joshua (formerly Gobi) was a 32-bit x86 microarchitecture designed by Cyrix for the low-end PC market. Joshua succeeded Cayenne. Joshua didn't meet its goals and was consequently scrapped by VIA in favor of Centaur's Samuel architecture.

History[edit]

Previously code-named Gobi, the microarchitecture was an entirely Cyrix design when they were still part of National Semiconductor. The name was changed from Gobi to Joshua following the acquisition of Cyrix by VIA Technologies in August of 1999. Joshua, the leader of the Israelite tribes after the death of Moses, is in line with VIA's Christian code names.
