Socket A |
Socket 563 was a socket for low voltage AMD Athlon XP-M microprocessors targeting thin and light mobile and value PCs. The majority of Athlon processors, including desktop and mobile Athlon models using the same chips, were released in packages for the larger Socket A. Socket 563 was superseded by Socket S1 for Family 0Fh processors with an integrated memory controller.

Overview
Socket 563 is a zero insertion force, lever or screw actuated, through-hole mount, low-profile, pin grid array socket. It was derived from Socket A and is not mechanically but electrically compatible, so infrastructure for Socket A can be reused.
CPU packages for Socket 563 have more pins than those for Socket A, 563 vs. 453, however the packages are smaller at 33 mm × 33 mm vs. 49.53 mm × 49.53 mm (1.95″ × 1.95″), and have a higher pin density with the pins arranged in a 24 × 24 grid at 1.27 mm (0.05″) pitch while Socket A has a 37 × 37 interstitial grid with 1.27/2.54 mm pitch and a central cavity. Pin position B2 is omitted on CPU packages and closed on sockets as an anti-rotation feature.
The lever actuated Socket 563 has two centered latches molded into the socket base for clip-on heatsinks.
All processors for Socket 563 are members of AMD's x86 CPU Family 6 with CPU cores based on the K7 microarchitecture and were fabricated on a 130 nm process.
