Overview[edit]
Launched by Intel on June 8 2018, this processor was first suggested by WikiChip as a celebratory chip for the 40th anniversary of the original 8086 which debut on June 8, 1978. The i7-8086K is a direct descendant of Intel's original 8086, capable of executing original 8086 code in real mode. Originally operating at a frequency of 5 MHz, the new commemorative i7-8086K has a turbo boost frequency x1000 faster at 5 GHz.
At 5 GHz turbo, the Core i7-8086K is Intel's highest frequency consumer processor ever released, and is tied with AMD's FX-9590 as the fastest consumer processor ever made, as of late 2018. (in terms of frequency not performance)
Box[edit]
The chip itself comes in a special "limited edition" box along with a commemorative card and a certificate of authenticity.
Cache[edit]
- Main article: Coffee Lake § Cache
Cache Organization
Cache is a hardware component containing a relatively small and extremely fast memory designed to speed up the performance of a CPU by preparing ahead of time the data it needs to read from a relatively slower medium such as main memory. The organization and amount of cache can have a large impact on the performance, power consumption, die size, and consequently cost of the IC. Cache is specified by its size, number of sets, associativity, block size, sub-block size, and fetch and write-back policies. Note: All units are in kibibytes and mebibytes. |
