Pentium Silver is a family of 64-bit x86 low-power microprocessors introduced by Intel in late 2017, succeeding the Pentium family in the low-power market segment. Pentium Silver is based on Intel's low-power microarchitecture which is positioned below the Pentium Gold which is based on Intel's mainstream performance microarchitecture.
Overview[edit]
Prior to 2017, Intel sold budget processors based on their big cores microarchitectures (e.g., Kaby Lake) and their little cores (e.g., Goldmont) under the same Pentium family. In late 2017 Intel rebranded the Pentium as two separate families: Pentium Gold and Pentium Silver. Pentium Gold includes only SKUs from their big core microarchitectures while the Pentium Silver is reserved for exclusively their little cores starting with Goldmont Plus.

Introduced in December 2017, Intel introduced the Goldmont Plus-based processors (codename Gemini Lake) low-power budget processors. Those processors deliver significant performance increase over their predecessors due to a large set of architecture improvements including a wider pipeline and a larger second-level cache.
