The μPD548 or μCOM-42 is a 4-bit microcontroller introduced in 1977 by NEC. This was the first model of the μCOM-42 family. This microcontroler was designed specifically for electronic cash registers, point of sales, and electronic scales.

The μPD548 is designed to control 8-digit display, ECR printers, and 8x4 matrix keyboard.
