Overview
Overview
The Celeron is not considered a performance processor, sitting below the Pentium family and well below the Core i3, which is a low-end performance processor. The Celeron is designed for budget and budget only. Accordingly, turbo boost is generally not significant or present, and most Celerons are dual-core only. They also lack helpful features like hyper-threading, and have generally low performance per mhz, resulting in PassMark scores of below 1500 for most models. Nicknamed the "DeCeleron", the Celeron is ok for basic tasks like word processing, light web browsing and email, and editing of low-resolution photos, but very few applications run smoothly - the lag is real! Browsing fancy websites can be quite tricky, and streaming even decent quality video is a lot to ask. As for gaming? Don't even think about it.

Mobile
Announced in late 2010, the first series of mobile Celeron models based on the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture were introduced in early 2011. In addition to the many architectural changes that improved both performance and power consumption, the integrated graphics is now incorporated into the same monolithic die with all Celeron mobile models having the lowest-end integrated GPU which offers 6 executing units. Models come in either single-core or dual-core versions. Compared to previous generation, the new mobile Celeron models now support SSE4.1/SSE4.1 in addition to higher performance. In addition, all models have the following features:

* Bus: DMI 2.0 link to chipset

* TDP: 10 W (ULV), 17 W, 35 W

* ISA: Everything up to SSE4.2 (SMM, FPU, NX, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2)

* Tech: SpeedStep, VT-x, Fast Memory Access, Flex Memory Access

G4900-Series Celerons which are based on the microarchitecture were introduced in early 2018. Those models succeed the previous G3900-series parts and bring a number of enhacements in addition to higher clock frequency for improved performance.

Desktop
Initially released in April 2018, desktop models bring higher performance versus prior generation through support for faster memory data rates and faster clock frequencies. Those models no longer have support for Intel's MPX and OS Guard and although they still use standard LGA-1151, those parts are no longer backwards compatible with earlier 100/200-series chipsets and must be paired with an appropriate 300-series chipset. Additionally, all models share the following common features:

* Dual-core without Hyper-threading, 2 MiB L3$

* Mem: Up to 64 GiB of 2400 MT/s DDR4 with ECC support

Goldmont Plus-based Celerons (core name ) were introduced in December 2017. Those models represent a significant performance increase over their predecessors through a large set of improvements to the cores. Additionally Goldmont Plus brings an improved and updated GPU based on as well as native support for HDMI 2.0.
