Digital electronics are electronic circuits that represent signals as a sequence of discrete values known as digital signals. This is in contrast to analog electronics which handles a continuously variable signal.

Today, the most common kind of systems built is two-valued systems. These systems are represented by two voltage bands: A reference value (also known as ground, low, and zero volt) and a supply voltage. These voltage bands correspond to 'true' (also known as '0', 'low', or 'lo') and 'false' (also commonly called '1', 'high', or 'hi') truth values in Boolean algebra.
