The 10696 was a general purpose input/output (GPIO) device manufactured by Rockwell International supporting 12 inputs and 12 outputs. This chip was used in various system including Rockwell's own PPS-4 and PPS-8 microprocessor chipsets. The 10696 was designed to interface directly with external TTL circuitry.

The 10696 used a set of 8-bit instructions made where 4 bits are used to address the the I/O chip to use and the remaining 4 bits are used as opcode to define the I/O operation.
