$asc is used to return the ASCII character code number for a specified character.
Synopsis
$asc(<char>)

Parameters
charThis would be any special character, letter, or number that you wish to retrieve the ASCII code for.
Example
Echo the ASCII code for the letter A to the active window
//echo -a $asc(A)
Echo the ASCII code for the number 7 to the active window
//echo -a $asc(7)
