Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID)

Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID, originally Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) is storage system architecture in which many smaller disks work together to provide increased performance and data redundancy. RAIDs consist of multiple disks clustered together in various configurations (called levels) with varying trad-offs between performance, capacity, and redundancy. The underlying implementation of a RAID raid system may be done by software, firmware, hardware or a combination of those.
