Knights Crest was a planned heterogeneous microarchitecture designed by Intel which incorporates the Nervana neural processor along with an x86 core.

Overview[edit]

Knights Crest announcement

Knights Crest was announced in early 2017 along with the initial disclosure of Lake Crest NNP. Knights Crest was planned to be introduced around the 2020 timeframe along with the rest of the NNP family. Knights Crest was designed to incorporate an x86 server along with a Nervana neural processor, possibly using two dies interconnected using Intel's advanced packaging technology such an EMIB.

On January 31, 2020, Intel announced it is discontinuing the development of the Nervana NNP architecture in favor of Habana's architecture, another startup the company acquired a month earlier. Knights Crest has likely been discontinued in the process as well.
