The x3 is the low-end family of processors designed for the mobile market below the {{intel|Atom x5|x5}} and {{intel|Atom x7|x7}} families - particularly targeting entry and value smartphones, phablets, and tablets. This is Intel's first family of chips featuring a cellular modem. The chips are available in both 4G LTE 5-band modem as well as 2G/3G modem versions. Atom x3 SoCs incorporate the [[Mali]] GPU.

The Atom x3 family was originally announced on March 2, 2015 at the Mobile World Congress in [[wikipedia:Barcelona, Spain|Barcelona, Spain]]. The family was designed to be an introductory level low-cost system on chips integrated cellular modem for smart phones. The x3 feature Intel's first chips with a cellular modem, an attempt to enter the entry-level smartphone market. Due to the cost associated with fabricating integrated modems on latest [[14 nm process]], Intel uses [[TSMC]] to manufacture these chips on [[28 nm process]].
