IC Identification is method by which one can use to identify and locate information such as datasheet about an unrecognized chip.

Markings[edit]

If the markings on the chip are still legible, it is possible to markings:

  • If there are clear part numbers on the chip, the first letters are called the IC Company Prefix or manufacturer prefix. While there is a lot of crossover between the various manufacturers. It's still possible to reduce the possibilities down to just a few. Once a manufacturer is identified, locating data about the exact part becomes much easier.
  • If there is a logo on the chip, it's relatively easy to find the manufacturer based on its logo.
