K6-2 was the microarchitecture for AMD's K6-2 line of microprocessors as a successor to the K6. The microarchitecture introduced a number of enhancements including support for Super 7 socket, a higher speed backwards compatible variant of Socket 7. K6-2 was superseded by K6-III in 1999.

Technology[edit]

K6-2 microarchitecture-based chips were manufactured on AMD's 0.25 μm process, a five-layer-metal process technology using local interconnect and shallow trench isolation, at AMD's Fab 25 wafer fabrication facility in Austin, Texas. K6-2 is designed using 9.3 million transistors, with the die packaged using C4 flip-chip interconnection technology in a 321-pin ceramic pin grid array (CPGA) package.
